Thousands of travellers through Wellington Airport have a window on Nelson's art scene this month.

A two-room art studio set, featuring the work of more than 30 Nelson artists, was put up in the airport this week to promote the region's creative industry ahead of the the launch of the Nelson Arts Festival and Nelson Art Guide next month.

"Visitors can sit on a lounge suite up-cycled in Nelson, around a coffee table carved in Nelson, while surrounded by paintings and ceramics made in Nelson," Nelson Tasman Tourism domestic marketing manager Angela Moriarty said.

"You can also read books written in and about Nelson, watch a presentation about Nelson art on TV, or simply enjoy the view out over Abel Tasman National Park."

Nelson Arts Marketing chief executive Warren Hoy said 10 Nelson artists had signed up to work from the space over the course of the month. Nelson Arts Marketing contributed $28,000 to the project, with a further $5000 coming from Nelson Tasman Tourism.
