Forget calendars, Nelson artist Anna Leary has a peculiar way of marking time; she paints. Last spring Leary painted a "pod" each day for 90 days based on "a painterly response to the transition in atmospheric light and colour across Tasman Bay". which her studio overlooks.
The resulting work, Ninety Days, 23 September - 21 December, was laid out on Tahuna beach this week in anticipation of spring. Leary, an artist since 2000, said her work represented "Pacific and lunar forms". The pods, each 28 cm long, were like a seed and represented "potential", she said. "They document the passing of time."
