Ms Leary won the inaugural Toss Woollaston art scholarship, available to fulltime students of the polytechnics new Bachelor of Visual Arts degree. Ms Leary, who has previously worked in advertising and has travelled around the world, says she decided to return to her home town for the visual arts degree. "I think that the Nelson Polytech course is a really good one. There is a really supportive environment here, not only in the polytechic, but the community is also really supportive of the arts. I want to fulfill my potential and I'd like to think I could make a contribution to the arts in the future."
